"Strengthen me according to Your Word." Psalm 119:28b

Do you sometimes start your day full of energy only to feel deflated by noon?
Are you looking for ways to stay connected to God and His word throughout the day?
Would a new, simple method of memorising empowering Bible verses appeal to you?
Are you a visual type of learner who thrives on visual cues?
Does hand-lettering or calligraphy fonts make you tick?
If you have answered "yes" to most of these questions, this inspirational-wristband project may be right your alley. I call it "Tie-a-verse" as a reference to Deuteronomy 11:18.

"Tie-a -verse" is a simple yet efficient way to stay grounded in Christ and encouraged throughout your day. It has helped me so much that I started to share the idea with my family and friends.
Before I share the four simple steps, allow me to tell the story behind the "Tie-a-verse".
The context & the problem
I was looking for almost the impossible, i.e. a daily virtual reservoir of strength available on-demand, overflowing with uplifting words from God. I would imagine a cistern filled to the brim with encouraging words that would steadily release a constant flow of a much needed "living waters" of peace, strength, joy and faith throughout my day.
Just like long-distance runners are offered a fresh cup of water every two miles at water stations; likewise, I needed refreshing cups of water to sustain me all through busy days.
Just like a spiritual marathoner, I would take a substantial breakfast filled with devotionals, praise and prayers before the race starts - I mean before the "day" starts. Yet, the problem was that after a few miles of "running" (i.e. school runs, work, ministry, house, relationships and more), my mind would run on empty. I would be thirsty for some pick-me-up words of encouragement. (sighs) Sounds familiar?
The idea
After I tried different methods (i.e. verse reminders on my phone, written post-its spread on my desk, post-its stuck to my phone) God heard my silent prayers and impressed me to try something new.
One day I was so encouraged by a Bible verse that I wanted to attach to me - literally. So that wherever I would go that day, this verse would remind me of God's revelation and His promise. After writing the verse on a plain strip of paper, I rolled it around my wrist and taped it to remain secure (see photo below). As I read this verse, glanced at it throughout the day, it bought a smile to my face, rekindling my faith. Praise be to God!!

The method
Now, here is a more streamlined approach for tie-a-verse:
Select your favourite power verses (if you need inspiration, refer to a selection captured in the photos below)
Buy or order online some Tyvek paper wristbands (different sizes and colours available). These wristbands are waterproof and tear resistant. (Use a pair of scissors when you want to remove yours - always be careful when handling sharp objects ;-)
Write down your inspirational verse using a marker or roller pen (depending on the size of your pen tip, you might be limited to the number of words you can write. In the examples below, I chose a medium-size marker and kept the verses between three to eight words maximum – do as you like)
Peel off the sticky part, press and "Voilà"!

The main objective is not only to sport a nice wristband but to anchor more deeply in our mind the empowering truths that God had revealed to us in the Bible. As such, I certainly do not view this "Tie-a-verse" as a superstitious display, nor is it a fashion statement or an outward self-righteousness proclamation. The Tie-a-verse approach is inspired by Bible principles. We can refer to Deuteronomy 11:18 for example, it the Contemporary English Version : "Memorise these laws and think about them. Write down copies and tie them to your wrists and your foreheads to help you obey them.".

Your handmade "Tie-a-verse" will certainly ...
help you memorize some powerful Bible verses
provide you with a source of encouragement
help you stay connected to God while being busy with your daily activities
help you sustain the benefits and insights gained from your morning meditation
be a reminder of God's promises to you - especially when you face sudden, unforeseen trials and challenges.
So, are you ready to create your your Bible verse wristbands? When you are, feel free to send me photos of your creations and share your experience.
I pray that your "Tie-a-verse" DYI project will help revive your faith and your connection with God; so that you can confidently say like King David : "Your word has given me life." Psalm 119:50b
Stay blessed!
